We are seeking narrative editorials--tell us a story! Use at least two or more models interacting and at least six or more distinct outfits, all in a consistent theme, no fast fashion brands please, current season styles in designer clothing preferred, vintage acceptable if doing a period piece story.

Focus on composition, lighting, sets, location and storytelling, but keep it subtle, no overacting (see Steven Meisel or Peter Lindbergh or Avedon or late Lagerfeld for inspiration). Your story can be color or black and white. Please no themes or images that are objectifying, exploitative or disrespectful to women.

9 times out of 10 when we reject submissions it is because people submit several photos of one model in the same clothing. That is not an editorial, it's a portrait. So get elaborate and show a whole series. Make it interesting and moody! We are so looking forward to seeing your stories!

Please send uncropped images, and if any are horizontal, remember that the subject cannot be centered or will get cut in half by the seam of the magazine. Leave plenty of room around all the edges since we are a full bleed magazine, so the format crops the images significantly.

Note that we often accept submissions via the app www.Kavyar.com in addition to direct submissions, so you can fill out their pre-set forms if you prefer a streamlined submission process.

SEND submissions to:
 [email protected]

Guidelines:
1. No Watermarks, shoot for print, send in high resolution uncropped images
Please remove all watermarks before you submit.

Single magazine pages are 8.5x11, double page spreads are 11’tall x17” wide.  Shoot with these shapes and sizes in mind!

2. Content Release Form
Next, send in your photographer's 3 page Content Release form giving us permission to publish your work.  Print the form out, initial each page, and sign and date it.  You may scan it back to us, take a photo of each page and email those back, or send the original by mail, as you wish. Note that we cannot publish your photos without this Content Release Form signed first.

If you are anyone other than the photographer submitting, then it is your responsibility to procure the proper Content Release Form signature from your photographer. Ask your photographer to send us his or her signed Content Release form giving us permission to publish their work.

Due to the number of submissions and emails we receive, we want to make this process as efficient as possible for all parties involved.  If you hear back from us, it will be to let you know that we have accepted your editorial. If you do not hear back from us within a month, you can assume that we were not able to include your editorial. In either case, we thank you for your submission and are honored to have the opportunity to review your work.

Step 6: Now you need to be extremely patient waiting for the issue you are slated to be in to come out.  We release only twice per year so it will be several months  before your editorial goes to print. Hang in there! We will let everyone submitting know when the magazine is finished, and we will do a soft launch and ask for your corrections before publicizing the release. Once your corrections are incorporated we will publicize the release of the issue across all social media platforms. You will be able to PURCHASE and DOWNLOAD each edition on magcloud.com.

We require that you DO NOT post the images anywhere until the ICON Magazine issue including your images has been officially launched by ICON Magazine, LLC.

Terms and Conditions:

Submissions must contain a minimum of 6 images and a maximum of 14 images from the same set BUT EACH INCLUDING DIFFERENT CLOTHING, DESIGNER BRANDS FROM THE CURRENT SEASON PREFERRED. To the extent possible please avoid using fast fashion brands (Forever 21, Target, Zara, H&M) as these are not our favorite companies to promote because they rely on sweatshop labor. Make sure that all models, themes and images are from a cohesive project, one that tells an interesting narrative story. If you’d like, include a title for the series of images you submit. (Examples: Youth, Rebellion, Riot! or A Fine Affair, or A Dangerous Game, or Falling for Faux Fur).  ICON Magazine reserves the right to change the title but will endeavor to have it refer to the title you chose, if possible.  Titles must adhere to the style of the magazine and cannot contain any offensive words.

We DO NOT accept previously released images and they MUST BE EXCLUSIVE AND UNPUBLISHED. Please make sure to double check the spelling of all the names pertaining to the credit information. It will be published exactly as it is sent to us.
